Metric Definitions
BPM (Box Plus/Minus)
Estimates a player's contribution per 100 possessions relative to league average (0.0). Used as the primary metric for NBA and NCAA MBB.
WS/40 (Win Shares per 40 Minutes)
Estimates wins contributed per 40 minutes played. Normalizes for playing time. Used as the primary metric for WNBA and NCAA WBB.
Value = BPM / AAV
For pro leagues, value divides the performance metric by average annual value (cap hit in $M). Higher value = more production per dollar. NCAA players have no AAV — raw BPM is used directly.
